Some People Don't Know:
It was time for me to make a change, and it had been coming for about 9 months. My Baby. Not what you think, but rather a rebirth, of my baby, my business Siesta Holidays. It wasn't too hard to recognize the obvious needed changes, which was also succinctly pointed out by my friend of 35 years, Tm Hart, of Hart Communications in Oakland California. "I've never been to Florida" says my world traveling pal. "Crap" said I, forgetting that Siesta Key is heaven on earth, but isn't the center of it. Tim reminded me of something I knew, but sort of lost sight of in all the years I've been around. Although Siesta Key Florida is a beautiful place and those of us who live here year round tighten our selves around it, protecting its' beauty, we know that it is still something to be shared. For years, it has been voted as one of the top ten beaches in America by Dr Beach. This information has been blasted on the Travel channel, but some people don't know.
An article recently came out in the local Sarasota Herald Tribune mentioning some of the history of Sarasota and her famous visitors...Elvis, Elizabeth Taylor, and Richard Burton from the "Olden days". Writer, John McDonald lived and wrote here, Stephen King still does. Frankie Valli, Dick Smothers, Jerry Springer, Brian Johnson and a host of many celebriTAY entertainers who try to remain anonymous have made Sarasota "their place" too, but some people don't know.
We know why they come, we know why they stay...a little slice of Heaven waiting for the next person to enjoy it...and some people will know.
Twitter vs Facebook
Oh, so yeah, I "facebook", but I won't Twitter - I don't care - I just won't. Nobody is waiting to read my comments in real time in 140 characters or less. While I may posess serious skills at bed making or pool cleaning, a chirp about it, as my tech savvy son says, is just not worth following. I have to concur as "military bed corners", or the "swirl of the poolwater" are just not relevant, important, or necessary. What is important is that the people that stay with me get what I sell - clean, well appointed, fully furnished, and comfortable accomodations close to the beach. A complete apartment with a kitchen and other amenities can make a huge difference in a vacation. I personally would never travel for more than a night or two in a place that did not have a kitchen. The convenience and savings are just too great when you have one. Even when the economy was stronger, eating out everything day could take a real bite out of the wallet.
Speaking of eating out....I patron many places in Sarasota and on Siesta Key. I want to know what they offer, who their service people are, and the quality of the product before I send my guests there. Of course, I do have my favs and of course I have to tell you about them when you get here.
I could blog about the cool food places too, but nary a tweet as it takes more that 140 characters just to list the names. Besides, as we are all so unique, none of us wants to be lost in a jungle of birds.
